  Interesting northward detour from Eyre Highway which can lead into various remote inland (offroad) tracks across the Nullabor Plain. If you choose to do this, have a suitable vehicle, gps and supplies, and know what you are doing.

  We refuelled and took water on board here, and had about 30 minutes to "explore" while respecting the privacy of the inhabitants. Temperature was 26 C with a nice breeze to keep the sand flies away. There were lots of "no entry" signs that some passengers chose to ignore. In sum, this was a nice place for a quick break from the confines of the train, albeit only for a short time.

  The train stops, everyone gets off. For how lonf? Until the whistle blows.
  There are numbered plaques around the town but no direction is given as to where they are.

  Took the drive up to Cook, had been on my bucket list for a while but was a bit disappointed. Not really much of a ghost town. Lots of dongas there for the railway workers. Could have camped up by the school but was so cold and windy we went back to the Nullabor road house. Make sure you let your tyres down for the gravel road, we forgot and ended up with two punctures. Great camp spot just a bit in on the Cook road, sheltered with a few trees.
